Adult ADHD and Autism Assessments

Adult Assessments for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and
Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)

Our Gold Coast Psychologists are expertly trained and experienced in providing psychological assessments for Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) and Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) through scientific and evidence-based approaches. ADHD and ASD are complex neurodevelopmental conditions and require a comprehensive assessment. Psychological assessments are conducted over multiple sessions and involve:

  • Comprehensive clinical interviews
  • Multi-informant normed questionnaires
  • Computerised neuropsychological assessment
  • Intelligence (IQ) testing
  • Comprehensive report outlining findings and diagnostic considerations

Clinical interviews offer insights into an individual's behaviour, emotional responses, and developmental history. These discussions help to identify specific symptoms aligning with ADHD or ASD criteria, thereby forming the foundation for an accurate diagnosis. In parallel, observer reports from significant others, such as partners or family members, contribute crucial insights by detailing specific behaviours observed in different settings. These reports complement the clinical evaluations, providing a more comprehensive view of an individual's symptoms and functioning in various environments.

Cognitive testing, including IQ assessments, are important to determining how ADHD and ASD symptoms are impacting a person’s on intellectual ability and functioning. This insight helps in tailoring interventions according to their cognitive strengths and weaknesses, which is an essential aspect in devising personalised treatment plans.

A battery of psychometric questionnaires is administered to measure symptoms and behavioural patterns associated with ADHD and ASD. They provide standardized means to evaluate the presence and severity of symptoms, facilitating the diagnostic process. Additional measures are also included in the assessment process to identify any additional concerns, such as anxiety and depression, which often co-occur with ADHD and ASD.

ADHD assessment with PsychologistASD assessments include:

  • Autism Quotient (AQ)
  • Empathy Quotient (EQ)
  • Camouflaging Autistic Traits Questionnaire (CAT-Q)
  • Social Responsiveness Scale (SRS-2)
  • Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-V)

ADHD assessments include:

  • Conners Adult ADHD Rating Scales (CAARS)
  • Behavior Rating Inventory of Executive Function for Adults (BRIEF-A)
  • Test of Variables of Attention (TOVA)
  • Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale (WAIS-V)

Following the assessment process, a feedback session is conducted with the client.  This typically involves a discussion regarding diagnoses, implications, and options for psychological treatment. Results of the assessment are provided in a detailed report, which includes relevant background information and developmental history, diagnostic considerations, and recommendations.

Assessment Fees/Cost

The cost of an ADHD or ASD assessment ranges between $2,081 and $2,798 (incl. GST), which includes all interviewing and testing sessions, in addition to the preparation of a comprehensive psychological report and feedback session.

A comprehensive assessment approach enables a holistic understanding of an individual's psychological and cognitive profile, aiding in identifying potential comorbid conditions like anxiety or depression often associated with ADHD or ASD. This thorough evaluation aims to minimise the risk of misdiagnosis, ensuring that key symptoms are adequately observed, and adhering to evidence-based practices in the assessment process.
